Singapore Launches State-Run Dating App Pilot for Public Officers
Original: Singapore Launches Pilot State-Run Dating App for Public Officers
Singapore has begun a pilot programme of a government-backed dating app aimed at public officers, making it one of the first state-run matchmaking initiatives of its kind. The scheme is designed to help civil servants meet partners, reflecting official concern over declining marriage and birth rates. Observers are split between those calling it an innovative social policy experiment and those criticising it as government overreach into private life.
Why now: A government directly organising dating for its employees is unusual and touches on debates about state involvement in private life and Singapore's fertility decline.
