A powerful typhoon is sweeping across Japan, with authorities urging nearly two million people to evacuate as the storm brings damaging winds and heavy rain. Emergency warnings have been issued in affected regions, with officials warning of flooding, landslides and disruption to transport as the typhoon makes landfall.

Typhoon No. 26 is forecast to approach Japan's Okinawa region by the 28th with 'very strong' intensity, according to Japan Weather Association forecaster Toru Fujikawa. Authorities are urging residents to prepare for high waves and other dangerous conditions as the storm nears.
