Defense Innovation Unit

The Defense Innovation Unit is looking for private investors to help advance counter-unmanned systems technology. The initiative aims to speed up development of tools that detect and defeat hostile drones by drawing on commercial capital alongside defense funding. The move reflects growing Pentagon focus on drone threats seen in Ukraine and the Middle East, and the push to scale counter-drone capabilities quickly.

The Defense Innovation Unit and the US Space Force are teaming up to launch new procurement of commercial satellites capable of monitoring activity in geostationary orbit. The initiative is meant to speed up military buys of commercial space capabilities, improving tracking of objects and potential threats high above Earth and deepening reliance on the commercial space industry for national security missions.
