1024-bit RSA

A new cryptography paper describes forging 1024-bit RSA signatures in time close to the Special Number Field Sieve, the fastest known factoring method. If the techniques hold up, they suggest 1024-bit RSA keys, widely considered obsolete but still found in legacy systems, are weaker against well-resourced attackers than standard estimates assumed.
